ROSENBAUM PLAYS IN MIC CUP

4.24.17: Penn Fusion 2002B Elilte player, ANDREW ROSENBAUM. was selected to play for the 2002 boys team representing US Soccer Region 1 ODP at the 2017 Mediterranean International Cup (MIC).  This is one of the largest youth tournaments in Europe and was played in the Girona region of Spain just north of Barcelona  from April 12-16.   

The team played in a U16 (2001) age bracket and competed against several teams from Spain, as well as others from Israel, Japan, Pakistan, and Qatar.  Andrew was the starting left back for all 8 of the games.  The team had 5 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss in regulation.  After going 1-1-1 in preliminary round play, the team won 4 straight games and competed in the Consolation Bracket Final against Aspire Academy, a select team from Qatar that has been living in residence and is expected to form a core of the Qatar National team that will represent Qatar at the 2022 World Cup.  The game ended in a hard fought 0-0 draw and was decided on penalties with Qatar winning 7-6 in 9 rounds of shooters. 

Overall, Andrew was a key contributor to strong defensive play with US Region 1 giving up only 5 goals in 8 games with 5 clean sheets. The trip included numerous cultural experiences in and around Barcelona and a chance to see FC Barcelona play Real Sociedad at Camp Nou.  Congratulations Andrew on a great competition and a fantastic experience!
