July 5, 2011 - PENN FUSION 93 BOYS had a great weekend of soccer and were crowned the 2011 US Youth Soccer Region 1 Champions and punched their ticket to the US Youth Soccer National Championships in Phoenix, Arizona. The boys opened Region 1 group play, with a 3-1 victory over Black Watch Midlothians (NY-E) and then proceeded to win against West Virginia’s Elite Titans (1-0) and Connecticut’s Beachside U17 (3-1). After a decisive 6-0 win against HMMS Eagles of Eastern PA, the Penn Fusion 93 Boys focused on the championship game against Maryland’s SAC United Premier. Six minutes into the game, Dan Matthews’ cross went into the net and the boys sat on a 1-0 lead. A second superb shot by Matthews in the first half kept the boys at 2-1 entering the half time break. In the second half, the boys gave up a second goal to SAC United Premier and the game was forced into overtime. In the first half of OT, Benjamin Kennel struck a great header from a corner kick and secured the win. The boys now head to the US Youth National Championships on July 26 in Phoenix, Arizona.
